Configuring Eudora Mail
Once you have opened up Eudora go to Tools and select Options....
Under the Special pull-down menu select the Settings option, the screen shown below should appear. Make sure that you have Getting Started selected under the Category field.
- Under Real name: you will need to type in your name. In the above example we are using John Doe.
- Under Return address: you will need to type in your email address at interwrx.com. John's email address happens to be johnd@interwrx.com.
- Under Mail Server (Incoming): type in mail.interwrx.com. This tells Eudora where to connect when retrieving your messages.
- Under Login Name: you will need to type in the portion of your email address before the "@" symbol. In John's case this happens to be "johnd".
- Under SMTP Server (Outgoing): type in mail.interwrx.com. This tells Eudora where to connect when sending your messages.
- Now click on the Checking Mail tab.
Checking Mail Tab
The settings under Checking Mail are entirely optional. Read the following descriptions and determine how you want to set your Eudora.
- Check for mail every 0 minute(s) - This option specifies that Eudora check for new email messages every x number of minutes. Our recommendation for this setting is 15 minutes.
- Send on check - This option specifies that Eudora send composed email messages upon completion of the message after clicking "send message". If you uncheck this option Eudora will only queue the message and send it when (a) the next time you check for messages or (b) you click on FILE and select Send Queued Messages.
- Save password - This option specifies that Eudora saves your password after the first successful downloading of messages. With this option unchecked you will be prompted for a password the first time after opening Eudora when checking for new messages (i.e., Eudora will remember the password while the program is opened).
Incoming Mail Tab
The following settings under Incoming Mail should already be set, but as a precautionary measure please verify the following:
- Under Server configuration select POP.
- Un-check Leave mail on server.
- Un-check Skip messages over x k in size.
- Under Authentication Style select Passwords.
Sending Mail Tab
Most of the settings under the Sending Mail tab are optional. Please read the following descriptions to help you determine how to setup your Eudora.
- Immediate send - With this option checked messages that you type out will be sent immediately once you press the "Send Message" button. Un-checked you will have the option to "Queue" the message and it will be sent (a) the next time you check for new messages or (b) you select "Send Queued Messages" from the FILE menu.
- Send on check - With this option checked any Queued messages will be sent when Eudora checks for new messages. Un-checked you will need to select "Send Queued Messages" from the FILE menu to send out your email messages.
For the rest of the options we would recommend keeping them to the original DEFAULT settings (i.e., do not change them).
Congratulations! Click on the OK button and you should now be able to send and receive email using Eudora!
